CHURCH SPIRITED AGAINST ‘spirit’: CSI CALLS FOR SHUTTING DOWN LIQUOR OUTLETS
The Church of South India Temperance Movement, under the leadership of the Rt Rev Thomas K Oommen, Bishop CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese, who also is the Deputy Moderator of the Church of South India, in a public demonstration in front of the Kottayam District Head quarters, re-affirmed its stand on shutting down at least 10% of the liquor outlets. “The Church cannot compromise with any thing that denies life”, said the Bishop. During the tenure of the previous Govt, too the Church had voiced her ‘prophetic commitment’ in fighting against ‘thwarting life’ through uncontrolled liquor distribution. Earlier, the Clergy, Church Workers and hundreds of believers marched to the District Headquarters, and registerd their protest against the current liquor policy of the state government. Apart from the Bishop, Rt Rev Thomas K Oommen, the Rev Jacob George, the Rev Alex Oommen and the Rev Joby Varghese Avanakkadan, voiced out the Church’s stand.

CSI Bicentenary Youth Centre Dedication
Dear all, With utmost joy we announce that yet another Bicentenary project, named CSI Bicentenary Youth Centre, at Karunya Nagar, Coimbatore, is dedicated. Thanks to the Mission Department of the CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese and the Rev Johnson Alexander and his successor Rev Levin Koshy Mallasseril, who toiled hard to make this possible. Many Parishes outside India and within India contributed toward the same. The first phase of the Centre, which includes a beautiful Chapel and Mission Quarters, was dedicated by the Bishop Rt Rev Thomas K Oommen and Bishop Rt Rev Timothy Ravinder, in the presence of many Clergy and laity, particularly our Youth, studying in Coimbatore.
We believe, any education which does not give emphasis on the spiritual nurturing of our generation would go futile. Therefore, this Centre is hoped to become a place of fellowship and worship, where our diaspora youth, irrespective of any differences could gather and encounter the very presence of God. This was constructed as part of the Projects included in the Bicentenary Celebration, commemmorating the 200 Years, following the arrival of the first CMS Missionary, Rev Thomas Norton, in 1816.
Bicentenary Revival Meeting
The Bicentenary Revival Meeting in the South Zone (Adoor, Mavelikara, Kodukulanji, Elanthoor, Tiruvalla and Kumpalampoika Districts) of the CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese was held at the CSI Christ Church Auditorium, Mavelikara on August 28, 2016. Rev Dr Valson Thampu, shared the Word of God, during which he urged us to become:
- missionaries who see harvest ahead and from afar,
- missionaries who believe that the harvest belongs to God and
- missionaries who pleads for God”s labourers.
The Rev George Cherian served as the Convener and Mr John David served as the Joint Convener, who with the help of CSI Christ Church, Mavelikara organized this meeting. The Choir, including members from various Districts in the South Zone, led the Singing Session. It was a God-incidence that the SIXTIETH BIRTHDAY of our dear Mother, Sr. Santhamma Joseph, of Bethel Ashram too fell on this day, and we gave her a surprise. 1000s of believers gathered during the Revival Meeting, and the ALMIGHTY made it a blessed evening.
